I was fishing along the lake and brushed against this plant which immediately caused pain/ irritation, followed by a few red bumps. The leaves look like sycamore, but wasn’t sure why it felt as though I touch stinging nettle.
That is indeed a sycamore, but on several leaves (like the top of the leaf with the line of spots in the bottom left) you can see a pair of fuzzy antenna sticking over the edge. Looks like saddleback caterpillars, which are venomous and do exactly what you describe.
