  1. Yes! Garden centres always close or sell out so early in my area. I actually purchase all of my compost and organic fertilizers in late July to ensure I have it available for winter soil amending. I guess it’s nice to have the compost break down even more ahead of time, but it’s a pain to store so many bags for that long! I had to search high and low for some last minute ProMix soil to seed start my fall plants. And I live in a big city!

  2. Recently started more kale, green beans, and arugula right out in the garden. I would like to plant some Fall lettuce, cabbage, carrots, kale, and bok choy. Do you ever use frost cloth to extend your growing season?

  3. I love learning from your content! I have started my brassicas 3 times already this season and the leaves keep drying up and dying leaving just a stem which eventually succumbs. What is happening and how can it be corrected?

  4. Excited about the fall/winter garden! I have these seedlings growing inside: Blue Curled Vates Kale, Evergreen Green Onions, Winter Savory, Sapporo Giant #4 Cabbage, Golden Acre Cabbage, Calabrese Broccoli, Snowball Cauliflower, Giant of Naples Parsley, & German Winter Thyme. This week, I will be direct-seeding White Egg Turnips, maybe also Purple Top Turnips; more Kale; Winter Density, Arctic King, Crisp Mint, & Marvel of Four Seasons Lettuces; Giant Winter Spinach; and Arugula. I'll be sowing Little Finger Carrots, Cherry Belle Radishes, Corn Salad, and Swiss Chard a little later. Using a hoop house and two cold frames, I'm hoping to create a space that will become a cold storage area for the hardier plants so we can have fresh food most or all of the winter. I didn't quite make my goal last year, so I hope to get farther this year.

  5. I just brought some of your seeds yesterday can’t wait to get them. I se e wat ur saying about slim pickings cause a lot of stuff on the app was sold out. But that’s ok cause I’ll be back for spring

  6. Hey Luke, saw you in the Seed Time streams last week! I’m looking forward to my first fall garden attempt. Planning on doing cabbage, carrots, broccoli, and more, however being in the middle of Texas we’re usually in triple-digit territory for the next two months at least. Any recommendations on keeping them alive through the inferno months?

  7. I don't see how in the world I could grow broccoli now. My broccoli that I planted in April still isn't even starting to head yet. It would be winter time before my broccoli would even begin to have a head.

  8. I woke up this morning stressing about when I should start and whether I should start seeds inside or outside for my fall garden. As always you are right on point Luke!

  9. Thanks Luke, I was hoping you had a video like this. I'm planning on growing collards, lettuce, radishes, and a few other things.

  10. I had fantastic luck with walmart hypertough LED lights! I had a 75 gallon aquarium I wasn't using anymore and put 4 of them together over the top of the aquarium. PERFECT seed starter set up for me and it kept the cats out of them. XD

  11. I've got more perennial kale seedlings that will hopefully be ready to plant this month or September. If I'm going to be growing winter brassicas, might as well make the most of it.

  12. Where are my seeds I ordered on your sale?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You just gave me a chore list to do!!!!! I need them!

  13. You need to make a sifter for that garden soil so you can use it without the chunks. Build a frame that fits over your wheelbarrow or over a 5-gallon bucket. Staple a piece of 1/4" hardware cloth to it and your off to the races.
