Plant Propagation

My cat is a menace to my props, help!

Hi all! I’m fairly new to plants and propagating in general but in true adhd fashion, I’ve thrown myself in head first at a somewhat alarming rate 😅

Since I’m new to this (within this year basically) I am just trying to propagate any stray fallen stem that looks decent and just kinda see what happens so I can learn through trial and error.

All this to say, my cat is making it very difficult to do this. I have limited options for spaces with light (I’m in a middle townhome with only east and west facing windows/doors). I’ve been using small drinking glasses or bud vases and try to keep them in a hidden/hard to reach area but my cat will eventually seek out the water and try to drink it which almost always results in shattered glass upon waking up.

I’ve seen some propagation stations online but they seem to be around $10-20 for a 3 vase option. I will get at least 1 to house the props that are thriving but I am struggling to find solutions otherwise. Anyone have suggestions?

I’d LOVE to keep them on the window shelf in the pic for the afternoon light but that’s his favorite ledge to model walk on and launch himself at the window when birds are near. (Cat in picture is my innocent, birdwatching angel, not the glass smasher).

Once they are rooted and stable, he loses interest but I’m losing glassware left and right over here.

TIA!

Ikea has some decent cloches that you can use- their greenhouse is probably perfect for this. Separately, if your cat’s knocking over a lot of glassware, try museum putty. It’s like five or eight bucks on Amazon and it sticks to practically anything. It’s literally made to survive earthquakes, so it should be able to survive your cat

I try to warn as many people as possible cats are toxic for house plants. Try spraying the cat with neem oil. (Don’t really)
