Plant Propagation

Money Tree Clipping

Ive had this leaf from a larger Money tree in a small cup of water for 5-6 weeks and it’s beginning to root! Any suggestions on putting it in soil or should I keep it in water for linger?

  1. i would keep it in a little longer to wait for secondary roots!

Had no idea you could prop a money tree like that. That is cool as hell. I would def let it grow its roots more before you put it in soil!

It’s got roots, it’s ready for soil. It’s either going to keep growing roots in water, or it’ll keep growing them in soil. Water roots are adapted for water, not soil. So growing more water roots isn’t necessarily giving your prop the headstart you think it might.

Put it in good soil, keep it moist and humid for the first couple weeks, and lower the light it gets a bit. The sooner it’s growing roots in soil, the better the prop will be.

So this is a zombie leaf, it will not regrow a money tree.

Lord knows I’ve tried to do this! I’m great at propagating. I have a nursery production degree ffs… but yet I fail. Hey, I know, we all have our odd issues with a certain plant. But this one? It’s like life giving me a big middle finger regarding finances. Haha. If only it was any other plant. Jealous! Very very jealous!
